Halloween Graveyard Cake

I think that our Hallowe'en party is going to be extra special this year, how could it fail with this spook-tacular cake as it's centrepiece! There is nothing better than a chocolate cake covered in even more chocolate and decorated with crushed Oreos - devilishly good!

A friend recommended this cake last year, the recipe for which is here. The cake is very easy to mix, requiring nothing more than a big bowl and a spatula. I baked it in a 20x30cm roasting tray lined with baking paper. It was baked through in 30 minutes, it will spring back when gently pressed in the centre. I allowed it to cool while I make the topping.

I decided against the chocolate Ganache, mainly as I had no cream in the fridge :) also I thought that it might be too rich for my children. I made chocolate glacé icing instead -add two tablespoons of cocoa powder to 250g of icing sugar and mix together with 5 tablespoons of cold water- which has a similar texture to the ganache and will spread evenly. Work quickly when spreading the crushed Oreos over the icing as it dried in seconds!

I added chocolate orange sticks (Choceur Orange Sticks 120g in Aldi) which I broke unevenly in two and "glued" them to the outside of the cake with some of the leftover glacé icing.

Some spooky wrapped sweets stuck into the cake was my last terrifying act. Happy Hallowe'en.
